Need Help?
Welcome to the Central Sussex Hospitals branch's
new website. Direct any questions or comments about this site to Mark Sargent on
mark.sargent@unison-csh.org.uk
If you need help and are a member of UNISON, then
you should first of all talk to your local representative. Otherwise contact the
branch office. As the office is not manned on a regular basis, e-mail
contact is preferred. You can also call our national helpline, UNISONdirect, on
0845 355 0845.
Lines are open from 6am to midnight on Monday to
Friday and from 9 am till 4pm on Saturday. There is also a textphone number for
members with hearing difficulties - 0800 0 967 968.

Welfare
We are aware of the pressures UNISON members face on a daily
basis and can provide support at times of unforeseen financial hardship or personal difficulty such as
redundancy, bereavement, illness or relationship breakdown.
We support members in a variety of ways mainly through confidential advice and financial assistance in the form of
grants. For example we can help with sorting out finances, advise on benefits or put members in touch with another
organisation that can help.
Welfare advice is provided by the Central Sussex Hospitals Branch's own
Welfare Officer, Marilyn Saward. All enquires are handled in complete
confidence and with sensitivity. Find out more about how Marilyn can help
members by visiting the Welfare section of this site, or e-mail her on

Education and Training
Education is at the
heart of all UNISON’s
work. It helps members,
activists and branch
officers to realise
their potential and
provides opportunities
to become more involved
in UNISON activity.
UNISON provides a wide
range of training and
development for
activists and members at
national regional and
branch levels. The
majority of these
courses are delivered in
the regions through the
Regional Programme.
Training for activists
at National level
complements this
provision.
UNISON’s courses are
run in a friendly and
supportive style, where
everybody’s views and
experiences are valued
and listened to.
Thousands of members
have benefited as
activists and
individuals. In many
cases people’s lives
have been changed as a
result of gaining new
skills, practical
qualifications and more
confidence.
What is LAOS?
Learning and
Organising Services
(LAOS) co-ordinates
education and training
for UNISON activists and
members. LAOS works with
regional education
officers and groups
across the union to
- develop and
deliver training for
national service
groups and
self-organised
groups
- produce course
books, tutors notes
and other materials
for use on national,
regional and branch
based courses
- develop and
encourage lifelong
learning in
branches, and in
partnership with the
outside
organisations
including the Union
Learning Fund
- develop on-line
learning
- co-ordinate
UNISON's lay tutor
training programme
- deliver a
national programme
of courses for
activists
Education, training
and lifelong learning
u in the UNISON
branch Branch education
co-ordinators identify
training needs of
members, publicise
regional and national
courses and may organise
branch-based courses
with support from
regional education
officers and lay tutors.
The branch may also
have lifelong learning
advisers and reps whose
role is to encourage
members and potential
members into learning.
Many branches are
involved in workplace
learning partnerships
with their employer to
deliver UNISON's Return
to Learn and related
programmes.
u in the region
Each UNISON region has
at least one regional
education officer (REO)
and an education and
training committee of
lay members which
oversees a regional
programme of training
for activists and
members on a wide range
of issues, including
stewards training,
organising and branch
officer training
courses.
Some courses are also
aimed at women and new
members who are
interested in getting
more involved. REOs also
work to promote lifelong
learning via workplace
learning, employer
partnerships and other
initiatives.
u at national
level LAOS runs a programme of
national courses to
complement regional
provision which include
law courses, women's
development and lay
tutor courses. Courses
aimed at national
committee members,
national service and
self organised groups
and for members in the
voluntary and private
sector are also
developed and delivered
by LAOS.
LAOS also
co-ordinates national
Union Learning Fund
initiatives including
'Establishing a culture
of learning'. |

27th March 2008 - Branch AGM
An Annual General Meeting is a rulebook requirement of
each branch. For 2008 the AGM for UNISON Central Sussex Hospitals
Branch will be held on Thursday 27th March from 5pm in the Euan Keats
Postgraduate Education Centre at the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards
Heath.
The AGM will be an interesting and enjoyable get
together. As well as dealing with elections it will be an
opportunity to find out more about what the branch has been doing over
the last year and to make plans for the coming year. There will
also be plenty of time to discuss issues that concern members.
The meeting itself will commence at 6pm, but from 5 pm
there will be a hot buffet available, with wine and soft drinks.
All members are warmly invited to this. Information will be
available on a range of membership benefits.
The branch is keen that all members should be able to
attend the AGM. Non-members are welcome to attend for the buffet
and meeting, but will not be eligible to vote.
