Welcome to the Central Sussex Hospitals branch's website. Direct any
questions or comments about this site to Mark Sargent on

If you
need help and are a member of UNISON, then you should first of all
talk to your local representative. Otherwise contact the branch
office. As the office is not manned on a regular basis, e-mail
contact is preferred. You can also call our national helpline,
UNISONdirect, on 0845 355 0845.
Lines
are open from 6am to midnight on Monday to Friday and from 9 am till
4pm on Saturday. There is also a textphone number for members with
hearing difficulties - 0800 0 967 968.
Welfare
We are
aware of the pressures UNISON members face on a daily basis and can
provide support at times of unforeseen financial hardship or personal
difficulty such as redundancy, bereavement, illness or relationship
breakdown.
We support
members in a variety of ways mainly through confidential advice and
financial assistance in the form of grants. For example we can help with
sorting out finances, advise on benefits or put members in touch with
another organisation that can help.
Welfare
advice is provided by the Central Sussex Hospitals Branch's own Welfare
Officer, Marilyn Saward. All enquires are handled in complete confidence
and with sensitivity.
Find out
more about how Marilyn can help members by visiting the Welfare section
of this site, or e-mail her on

Help at Work
One of the key functions of UNISON is to provide to its members
advice and representation on workplace issues including grievance and
disciplinary matters.
If you have a problem at work and are a
UNISON member, contact your local UNISON steward or health and safety rep as
soon as possible. If you don't know who your local UNISON rep is or aren't sure
who to contact, ring our hotline (have your membership number ready):
UNISONdirect 0845 355 0845 (calls charged at local rates)
Freephone textphone 0800 0 967 968
Lines are open 6am-midnight Monday-Friday and 9am-4pm Saturdays.
to seek help on matters relating to their employment
to be treated with respect and integrity
to be helped by a UNISON representative who has been
trained to appropriate standards
to understand that no action or representation will
be made on the member’s behalf without that member’s agreement
to expect confidentiality unless otherwise agreed.
In the workplace, every UNISON member has the right:
to seek advice about workplace problems, and
representation as appropriate
to receive help from UNISON to ensure their employer
gives them a fair hearing.
CASE form
Before we can formally advice or assistance to a member on
a grievance or disciplinary matter a CASE form must be completed. The CASE
Form provides a means to:
ensure we have all the key facts and information we
will need at the outset
monitor our casework and the kind of cases being
raised by our members
look for problem areas – particular employers,
departments or managers where there appear to be a concentration of problems
which we may need to address separately; or where there are particular
issues that keep coming up and which may point to an organising, campaigning
or bargaining issue
refer a case to a more experienced representative (eg,
first a branch secretary or senior steward, then to a regional organiser)
systematically and efficiently without causing concern to the member
ensure the member understands the obligations on
him/her when we give assistance.
It is recommended that members download the CASE form from
this site, complete it and return it to the branch office at the first
indication that formal representation may be required.
Your email will be read by UNISON as soon as possible.
Please complete the form fully to enable UNISON to deal with your query
quickly. We will assess who is best placed to deal with your query.
UNISON will either respond by email with the information you require, or
you may be contacted by telephone if we need further information.
Please note: general enquiry emails are looked at during office
hours (Mon-Fri: 6am-12midnight; Sat: 9am-4pm). If your enquiry is
urgent, please phone UNISONdirect on 0845 355 0845.
