talk to your local representative. Otherwise contact the branch
office. As the office is not manned on a regular basis, e-mail
contact is preferred. You can also call our national helpline,
UNISONdirect, on 0845 355 0845.
Lines
are open from 6am to midnight on Monday to Friday and from 9 am till
4pm on Saturday. There is also a textphone number for members with
hearing difficulties - 0800 0 967 968.
Welfare
We are
aware of the pressures UNISON members face on a daily basis and can
provide support at times of unforeseen financial hardship or personal
difficulty such as redundancy, bereavement, illness or relationship
breakdown.
We support
members in a variety of ways mainly through confidential advice and
financial assistance in the form of grants. For example we can help with
sorting out finances, advise on benefits or put members in touch with
another organisation that can help.
Welfare
advice is provided by the Central Sussex Hospitals Branch's own Welfare
Officer, Marilyn Saward. All enquires are handled in complete confidence
and with sensitivity.
Find out
more about how Marilyn can help members by visiting the Welfare section
of this site, or e-mail her on

Members of UNISON Central Sussex Hospitals Branch will be standing up to defend
decent pensions for all on the 30th November 2011. Along side our
colleagues in Unite, GMB, CSP and the SOR we will be sending a clear message to
the government that they are wrong to attack our pensions. Not only are
public sector pensions affordable but it is a mark of any decent society that
everybody, whether they work in the public or private sector, should have access
to a pension scheme that enables dignity in retirement and ends poverty, giving
a Minimum Income Guarantee to all. 1.8 million pensioners live in poverty,
and thousands more are on the breadline. That is a
scandal. The current system does not work – there is an alternative.
In order to get our message across to the public UNISON CSH encourages our
members to take industrial action on the 30th November and join in the events
detailed below:-
Princess Royal Hospital
Picket Line and supporter demonstration, commencing 6:30am - 2 picket lines,
with the express intention of giving out information to staff and members of the
public, will be located at the main road entrance off the Lewes Road roundabout
and at the footpath entrance to the hospital by the Lewes Road bus stop.
Supporter demonstration in the lay-by of the bus stop.
Royal Sussex County Hospital
Picket Line and supporter demonstration, commencing 7am - At least one picket
line at the Barry building entrance, with supplementary pickets at other
entrances as appropriate. Supporter demonstration along the footpath of
Eastern Road.
Pensions march - Feeder marches for the main rally at Victoria Gardens (11:45am)
will commence at 3 points within the city. The most appropriate for
hospital staff will be the one departing from the Bus Garage, Whitehawk Road at
11am. This will go along Eastern Road picking up participants from the
RSCH, Job Centre, Police Support and the Courts. On arriving at Victoria
Gardens mass rally will then march through the town to The Level, where there
will be a demonstration with speakers.
