UNISON Welfare

Welfare

We are aware of the pressures UNISON members face on a daily basis and can provide support at times of unforeseen financial hardship or personal difficulty such as redundancy, bereavement, illness or relationship breakdown.

We support members in a variety of ways mainly through confidential advice and financial assistance in the form of grants. For example we can help with sorting out finances, advise on benefits or put members in touch with another organisation that can help.

Welfare advice is provided by the Central Sussex Hospitals Branch's own Welfare Officer, Marilyn Saward. All enquires are handled in complete confidence and with sensitivity.

Find out more about how Marilyn can help members by visiting the Welfare section of this site, or e-mail her on welfare@unison-csh.org.uk

Bucket and Spade Appeal

The Bucket & Spade Appeal aims to raise funds for the family holidays provided by UNISON Welfare. Although there has been a huge growth in tourism a quarter of the UK’s population, including many families with children, are excluded from taking holidays, mainly because they cannot afford them.

Our family holiday service provides a much needed break to families whose very difficut circumstances mean they have the most to gain from the stress relief that a holiday can bring. Thanks to the many volunteers who have taken part in our sponsored events, and the support of branches, members and staff we have raised over £250,000 so far.  All the monies raised for the appeal are held in a restricted fund to be used exclusively for family holidays.

Please consider making a donation. If you are a UK tax payer UNISON Welfare can claim back the tax on your donation making it worth nearly a third more at no extra cost to you (applies to individuals only).

Cheques should be made payable to UNISON Welfare and sent to Bucket & Spade Appeal, UNISON Welfare 1 Mabledon Place London WC1H 9AJ. Please ensure you mark your envelope ‘Bucket & Spade Appeal’ to ensure your donation goes to our restricted fund to be used exclusively for family holidays. You can also donate online.
